Black Women’s hair products the reason for the latest racial discrimination lawsuit against Walmart

Last Friday a mother from California,  announced that she would be filing a lawsuit against Walmart alleging racial discrimination. The Mother is being represented by a well-known woman’s right attorney Gloria Allred.

Mrs Grundy details how she felt after seeing all the African-American hair products being locked and hair products for other races were not.

In her own words

“when walked down the aisle and saw that Walmart had placed all the African-American hair and skin products under lock and key, I had to pause; I had to step back; I was in shock. I realised that all similar products for other races were freely available.”

Mrs Grundy went on to say it was something she had to stand up for.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the lawyer representing Essie Grundy, Gloria Allred is hoping to have court injunction to stop Walmart from the practice of locking products.

Walmart has in the past responded to similar claims which they deny as untrue. Stating that “some products are frequently targeted by shoplifters including baby formulas and razors.”

In this instance, Walmart has responded by saying that, heightened measures are made on a store by store basis and that these rules are supported by store data. Walmart went on say that,

“We’re sensitive to this situation and also understand, like other retailers, that some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics and other personal care products are subject to additional security,”

Let us know what you think, is this discrimination on the part of Walmart?

Or is Mrs Essie Grundy taking it too far and should focus on real issues?
